Jinan University held the demonstration meeting for The General History of China's Overseas Chinese Volume, a major academic project in the Fourth Five-Year Plan. More than 30 participants were present at the meeting, including Zhou Qun, head of the Special Work Office of the Chinese Academy of History; Wang Zhen, office manager of The General History of China (new edition), Zhang Chunwang, director of the Institute for the Studies of Overseas Chinese; and other review experts and panelists. 

JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng expressed his thanks to the Chinese Academy of History. As the paramount school for overseas Chinese students, he said, JNU is capable of undertaking the national major task of compiling the history of overseas Chinese. He added that the university would fully support the compiling team to ensure that the compiling project is well under way and completed on time with high quality.

At the meeting, Prof. Chao Longqi, chief editor of the overseas Chinese volume, briefed to the experts on compilation guidelines, goals and tasks, design ideas, framework outlines, compilation styles and other new ideas. 

This meeting, based on improving the framework of volume, promoted its compilation by providing useful analysis and discussion on many important issues.
