The JNU project Innovation and Application of Integrated Prototyping Technology of Metallic Selective Laser Melting, led by Profs. Tong Xin and Li Wei from the university's Institute of Advance Wear and Corrosion-Resistant and Functional Materials, won first prize in the China Nonferrous Metal Industry Science and Technology Awards 2020, announced by the China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association and the Nonferrous Metal Society of China. It is the first time the university has received this award.

In recent years, JNU has vigorously implemented its Engineering Revitalization Plan. It has also established more than 10 national and industrial enterprise standards based on the geographical advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, relying on such platforms as the Guangdong 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Engineering Technology Center and focusing on metal and additive manufacturing. Thus, JNU has made great contributions to improving China's technical level in the mold manufacturing industry, promoting the nonferrous metals processing industry and increasing the international competitiveness of China's products.
The awards are jointly organized and judged annually by the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and the Nonferrous Metals Society of China. Winners may be selected and nominated for the National Science and Technology Award. A total of 233 scientific and technological achievements were awarded this year.
