Associate Prof. Ming Weijie of JNU's School of Medicine has been honored as an Outstanding Individual in Youth Volunteer Service in China's Covid-19 Fight by the Central Committee of the Communist Young League and Chinese Young Volunteers Association.

After the outbreak of Covid-19, Ming, who comes from Hong Kong, immediately directed the establishment of JNU's Youth Volunteer Team for epidemic prevention and control, one of China's first volunteer teams for epidemic prevention and control. It consisted of more than 100 students, including 22 from Hong Kong, 4 from Macao, 4 from Taiwan and 2 from overseas. By setting up online groups to answer questions and post on WeChat,  the service team gave full play to its professional advantages and youth strength to popularize medical knowledge and dispel online rumors. It has served nearly 60,000 people to help them to take precautions, among them about 500 foreign teachers and students. Relevant scientific information is spread through WeChat, Weibo, short videos and other tools, with encouraging videos viewed more than 227,000 times and videos for preventing epidemic and dispelling rumors about 30,000 times.

During spring semester's online teaching, Ming donated a month's salary to help students improve their online learning equipment and environment. His deeds have been presented in the documentary Young People Thrive in China and reported by China Youth Daily, China News and other media.

The Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the Chinese Young Volunteers Association have given 295 young volunteers and 149 youth volunteer groups in China honorary titles for their roles in the fight against Covid-19.
