2020 SEZ-Hong Kong-Macao Economic Research Summit held at JNU

The 2020 Special Economic Zone (SEZ)-Hong Kong-Macao Economic Research Summit, co-hosted by JNU's Economics Research Institute on Special Economic Zones, the Academy of Greater Bay Areas Studies in Economy, and JNU Enterprise think-tank, was held at JNU on Oct. 13. Scholars various research institutes discussed the theme of special economic zones' 40-year development. JNU Deputy Party Secretary Sun Yu expressed his best wishes to the opening of the summit and gave a brief introduction to JNU and its School of Economics.

He Delong, deputy director of the State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, reviewed the 40-year development of the special economic zones. He said both the special economic zones and Guangdong will comprehensively deepen reform and opening-up at a higher level, improve governance and develop these areas with a better quality in the future, giving full play to Hong Kong and Macao's unique advantages and providing a new platform for their social and economic transformation. Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao will also have an opportunity to form a new pattern of mutually supporting and promoting development, he said.

Prof. Feng Shuaizhang, dean of JNU's School of Economics, said this is the right time to do research on the special economic zones, Hong Kong and Macao. He pointed out that JNU School of Economics, especially the Economics Research Institute on Special Economic Zones, had undertaken a lot of significant work in policy research. He promised that the school would continue to provide intellectual supports for the economic development of China, especially in Hong Kong, Macao and the Greater Bay Area.
Participants discussed research such topics as on the development experience and model of the special economic zones, their industrial development, new driving forces in their development, the construction and challenges of the Greater Bay Area and on high-quality regional development.
