JNU held flag-raising ceremonies on Sept. 22 and 23 to welcome 2020 freshmen to its five campuses: the Shipai, Panyu and Guangyuan east campus in Guangzhou; Zhuhai campus, and Shenzhen campus. Leaders of the university and relevant departments attended.
On Shipai campus, JNU President Song Xianzhong expressed his best wishes to the freshmen on behalf of the school. A flag-raising ceremony at the beginning of the school year has great significance, he said. No country, no happiness, he said. Everyone must be rooted in the soil of the motherland.
I watched the flag-raising ceremony today, said Zheng Zhiqing, a freshman in the Shenzhen Tourism College. I felt so touched because it reminded me of the scene of the Five-Starred Red Flag rising on the Golden Bauhinia Square in Hong Kong. I'm very proud to be a Chinese, a student. And I have more confidence in the future of the motherland.”
Yan Zhihang, a freshman from the College of Intelligent Science and Engineering / Institute of Artificial Intelligence Industry, said the national flag embodied the dream of generations of Chinese and raising the national flag meant raising the dream of every JNU student. Now I am eager to work hard and make contributions to the future of our motherland, he said.
Mao Simin from Hong Kong, a 2020 freshman in the College of Chinese Language and Culture, said that when the Five-Starred Red Flag was rising, she felt a sense of mission and responsibility and deeply realized that it was the country's unremitting efforts that led to today's stable and harmonious life. For the future of our motherland, she said, I will study hard, work hard and contribute to the society to spread Chinese culture all over the world.
