The unveiling ceremony of the Institute for Communication and Borderland Governance was held at JNU on Sept. 12. With China's border issues continuing to attract attention, the institute was established to conduct borderland research from an interdisciplinary perspective.
 

JNU established the institute based on the faculty and academic research of its School of Journalism and Communication. Sun Yu, deputy secretary of JNU's Party Committee, said at the opening ceremony that the institute's establishment followed the developments and changes at home and abroad, expanding and enhancing the social service capability of the journalism and communication disciplines.

Zhi Tingrong, dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, said the institute was a meaningful attempt to integrate communication and public governance, borderland governance, cross-area governance, and cross-border governance.

Zheng Liang, the institute's head, said it would integrate and mobilize various disciplinary resources through the interdisciplinary research, carrying out more in-depth and comprehensive research on China’s borderland governance.
After the unveiling ceremony, the First Communication and Borderland Governance Forum was held, with the theme “Borderland Governance Research From an Interdisciplinary Perspective: New Thoughts and New Path.” Specialists, scholars and Ph.D. candidates dedicated to borderland research were invited from universities including JNU, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Lanzhou University, Northwest University of Political Science and Law, Shaanxi Normal University and Xinjiang University. They had in-depth academic discussions on topics concerning borderland research, international relations and social governance.
