JNU held its 2020 graduation and degree-awarding ceremony on the morning of July 2. JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng, President Song Xianzhong, department heads, teachers, students, alumni, and parents witnessed this important moment when 7,533 graduating students left JNU to start their new journey.
For the first time, the university held its commencement ceremony both online and offline. The main ceremony at the Run Shaw Gymnasium on the main campus was broadcast to 10 subvenues on various JNU campuses. They were broadcast live by Xinhuanet, South+, Sina Weibo, Tiktok and Kuaishou, with a total of over 5.6 million viewers.

Scepter in hand, Prof. Feng Shuaizhang -- a distinguished professor of the Yangtze River Scholars, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and president of the School of Economics and Institute of Economics and Social Studies -- led the group of leading professors into the main venue, and the graduation ceremony and degree awarding ceremony began.

Song spoke and Lin read out the Decision of Jinan University on Honoring 2020 Outstanding Graduates, along with other relevant recognition and degree-awarding decisions. The leading professors presented awards to representatives of the graduates.
This year's graduates included 4,024 undergraduates, 3,242 master's degree graduates and 267 doctoral graduates, with 365 graduate students and 302 undergraduates commended. Some are students and volunteers engaged in the development of Western China; some are outstanding students who have made contributions, and some are student cadres who have achieved outstanding results.
Then graduates in the main venue took the stage in turn to receive their degree certificates, have their tassel ceremonies and walk through the degree gate. Graduates in the subvenues and at home performed their tassel ceremonies with the school leaders in the subvenues and relatives and friends at home. Across time and space, they started new journeys in life.
