The International Labor Day Celebration and the Model Workers’ Commendation Conference were held in Guangdong on April 30. On behalf of the commended groups and individuals, JNU Prof. Zhou Zhen, winner of the National May Day Labor Medal and chief scientist of Guangzhou Hexin Instrument Co., Ltd., spoke. The National May Day Labor Medal and Certificate are the highest awards for Chinese labor.

 JNU also won a national honor and a provincial honor. The Center of Joint and Sports Medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University won the title of National Worker Pioneer. Prof. Ju Hailong, associate dean of the School of International Studies and the Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies, won the National May Day Labor Medal.

Zhou, director of the Institute of Mass Spectrometer and Atmospheric Environment and a doctoral supervisor, is president of the Guangzhou Hexin Instrument Co., Ltd. Ju is a leading scholar of basic research on the South China Sea issue in domestic academic circles, interdisciplinary research and applied research.
The Center of Joint and Sports Medicine was one of the earliest research units to perform artificial hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and other joint replacement surgery in China under the leadership of Zha Zhengang, a famous joint surgery specialist and academic leader, and chief physicians Liu Ning and Zheng Xiaofei. The center has also accumulated many successful clinical experiences in chllenging field of sports medicine.
