JNU ranks ninth among universities nationwide and first in Guangdong in the 2019 Major Projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, released Nov. 11, with eight projects, a record for JNU. Apart from two major projects upgraded to key projects, JNU added two projects over 2018 and rose one place in the national ranking.

Among the 27 JNU projects submitted, 10 were approved, including the two major projects upgraded to key projects, with an approval rate of 37.03%. Five JNU departments won, with three projects from the College of Liberal Arts College, two from the School of Journalism and Communication, and one each from the College of Economics, the College of Chinese Language and Culture, and the Institute of Industrial Economics. In subject distribution, Chinese language and literature, journalism and communication, and applied economics have two projects each, and linguistics and Chinese history one each.
