According to the new list of International Nannoplankton Association (INA) committee members released by president of the committee, Giuliana Villa from University of Parma, on Oct. 26 ((http://ina.tmsoc.org/ina/committee.htm.), Prof. Jiang Shijun of JNU's Institute of Groundwater and Earth Sciences has been unanimously elected to the committee, its first Chinese member.

Founded in 1977, INA facilitates pure and applied study of fossil nannoplankton and modern coccoliths, and it promotes communication among world scholars in academic and industrial circles. Fossil nannoplankton, the common type generated from coccoliths, is a significant means of research on Meso-Cenozoic marine geology and petroleum exploration.

With a four-year term of office, the INA committee has 12 members at most, including president, secretary, treasurer, membership secretary, INA foundation director and journal editor. It is legally liable for the association and responsible for controlling and managing the INA foundation.  

Jiang is also a member of the editorial board of a major SCI geoscience journal, Marine Micropaleontology, which increases the influence of JNU’s marine discipline at home and abroad.
