In the 2019 National Natural Science Foundation projects officially announced on Aug. 16, six JNU projects were approved by the National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars. JNU ranked 19th in the country and second among colleges and universities in Guangdong.

Six researchers and professors won funding: Lu Xiaoyun and Jin Yanli of the College of Pharmacy; Lai Junzuo of the College of Information Science and Technology; Prof. Yan Ming of the College of Management; and Yan Sen and Ren Chaoran of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Institute of CNS Regeneration.

Up to now, 21 JNU scholars have gained the project fund, among them 19 are researchers trained in China.

[Profiles of the national outstanding young scholars for 2019]

Lu is a researcher and Ph.D supervisor. In recent years, by focusing on clinical needs in treating important lung diseases, including tuberculosis and lung cancer, and using  biological targets closely related to the diseases, she has designed and synthesized a new lead drug with the structure-based drug design, thus providing a chemical substance basis for innovative drug research and development to treat pulmonary disease.

Jin, an associate researcher, has worked at the university's Tumor Pharmacology Institute since 2014. She has long been engaged in the study of anti-tumor pharmacology.

Lai is a researcher and doctoral supervisor in the College of Cyber Security/Information Science and Technology. His main research directions include cryptography and information security (big data, block chain, cloud computing, and Internet of Things security).

Yan Ming is a professor in the School of Management's Department of Business Administration. He focuses on the study of organizational behavior and human resources management, including organizational socialization, active behavior and negative leadership behavior.

Yan Sen is a researcher in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Institute of CNS Regeneration and a Young Pearl River Scholar. He mainly studies neurodegenerative diseases such as Hodgkin's disease, Alzheimer's and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease), including animal models (mice, pigs, and monkeys), molecular mechanisms and genetic modification of embryonic development.

Ren is an associate researcher and a doctoral supervisor in the institute. His research probes non-imaging function and its mechanism of external optical information in emotional and cognitive adjustment.
