Macao Daily covered JNU's contributions to talent-training and maintenance of prosperity and stability in Macao in recent decades with a full page in a special section titled 40 years of Macao and reform and opening-up on May 27. The report reviewed the history of JNU's enrollment in Australia; described the support and help of the Ma family of Macao in JNU's development; summarized the in-depth cooperation and exchanges between JNU and Macao; and looked forward to further cooperation in the new era.

The cooperation between JNU and Macao began in 1978 when JNU reopened in Guangzhou. JNU has trained more than 20,000 high-quality talents for Macao, with an average of one JNU alumnus in every six Macao families. Alumni have played a major role in Macao's social stability and development through outstanding achievements in various fields.

Ma Wanqi, former vice chairman of the national committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, became involved with JNU in 1958. In the early stage of JNU's reconstruction, in addition to automobiles, equipment, cement and other materials, Ma donated a house as JNU's Macao office. In 1986, he and seven other school trustees initiated the establishment of JNU's education foundation.

Ma Youheng, a JNU alumnus who is the son of Ma Wanqi and son-in-law of Rong Yiren, former vice president of China and former chairman of the JNU board, has served as board vice chairman and president of the alumni association. He donated HK $10 million on Nov. 13, 2015, and 1 million RMB on May 7, 2016.

With the Mas' constant support and help, JNU has become increasingly close to all walks of life in Macao, including government, business and education circles.

JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng said that in the new era, JNU will arrange more of its majors to meet the needs of Macao’s talent-training program. Meanwhile, it will provide a broader platform for the employment development of students from Macao through the innovation and entrepreneurship base and the internship base jointly built with Nansha District for students in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and a series of relevant competitions.

In addition, it will carry out comprehensive cooperation with Macao's universities. At present, JNU and the Academy of Social Sciences of the University of Macao have launched collaboration on Macao studies, history and culture. In January a delegation led by JNU President Song Xianzhong visited the University of Macao and signed a new agreement to promote in-depth cooperation between the two universities and the progress of the Greater Bay Area.
