JNU and the Training Center/Public Center of the National Development and Reform Commission signed a cooperation framework agreement on Jan. 24 in Beijing. The two parties agreed to make joint efforts, with JNU as the base, to establish a research institute of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The institute will focus on deepening cooperation in fields including policy research, industry analysis, talent training, cultural communication, public opinion information, the modern service sector, and technological innovation and development.
Attending the signing ceremony were Kang Ning, the center's party secretary and director; Wei Hongbo, its deputy party secretary and deputy director; Shu Zhihong, deputy director of the Bureau of Overseas Chinese Affairs in the United Front Work Department of Party Central Committee; Xia Quan, JNU's deputy party secretary; JNU Deputy President Hong An, and other leaders. Wei and Xia signed the strategic cooperation agreement.

Xia gave a detailed introduction to school-running characteristics of JNU, a famous university for overseas Chinese, and its research advantages in developing the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area. Hong said he hoped that research and cooperation on eco-environmental protection in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao will make more progress. He also suggested that JNU alumni both at home and abroad can contribute.

Wei said the two parties would join hands to make that development come true with the synergistic efforts from national ministries and missions, the Guangdong Provincial Government and JNU on the basis of Consultation, Contribution and Shared Benefits and interdependence.

Shu extended his congratulations on the signing of the contract and noted that the United Front Office fully supported the cooperation.

In the closing speech, Kang said the signing was a good start for cooperation.
