JNU's tourism management major ranks third among undergraduate schools and universities in national tourism management -- six places higher than last year -- in the 2018 Ranking of Discipline Competitiveness of Chinese Universities, published by the Network of Science and Education Evaluation in China. It is the first comprehensive, academic, authoritative, practical and global evaluation website relying on the key research bases for humanities and social sciences in the Hubei Research Center for Chinese Scientific Evaluation and Information Management at Huazhong Normal University.
The Report on the Competitiveness Evaluation of University and Subjects in China (2018) was jointly released by the China Academy of Science and Education Evaluation at Hangzhou Dianzi University, the Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation at Wuhan University, and the Network of Science and Education Evaluation in China. The report comprehensively, systematically and impartially evaluated 2,621 universities in mainland China. JNU's tourism management major ranked in the top 10 in 2016 and 2017.
JNU's Shenzhen Tourism College admitted the first tourism management students in 1996. In 2005, with the college's support, JNU's tourism management major was named a brand major of Guangdong. The college was one of the first nine included as global academic members when the World Association of Tourism held its annual meeting in Hangzhou from Sept. 7 to 9. In 2001, JNU' s tourism management major was the first in China to be authenticated by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, and it was re-authenticated in 2005, 2009 and 2017.
