Dr. Louis Agnese, former president of University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), a private Catholic university in Texas, was appointed a JNU honorary professor in an invitation ceremony and academic symposium on Nov. 7. JNU Vice President Rao Min issued the appointment letter and put the JNU emblem on Agnese's clothes. More than 80 teachers and students from the Law School, the Intellectual Property School and the Intellectual Property Research Institute attended the ceremony, hosted by Xu Xuan, dean of the institute.

At the ceremony, Rao introduced JNU's basic situation and its educational cooperation with UIW. She highly praised Agnese for his contribution to maintaining the relationship between the two universities. She also said they should work together to further cooperation and communication so as to internationalize JNU's construction and spread Chinese culture to the whole world.

Agnese said he was honored to be appointed an honorary JNU professor and hoped to take this opportunity to carry out in-depth cooperation in more fields on the basis of the good cooperation between the two universities. He then introduced UIW's history and its historical connections with JNU. Finally, he shared his experience in university management, and he encouraged students to actively carry out overseas study and expand their international vision.

At the ceremony, Harley Seyedin, a visiting researcher at JNU and president of the American Chamber of Commerce in South China, gave an academic report on the impact of tariffs on U.S.-China trade. In the current U.S.-China trade dispute, the tariffs have a negative impact on companies of all industries in both countries, Seyedin said. He added that the expansion of the Chinese market is one of the most important remedial measures for most companies to deal with tariffs, proving the global importance of the Chinese market.

Xu thanked Agnese and Seyedin for their visit and said he hoped they would come back and communicate more with JNU's teachers and students.
