The red rising sun will light up the road ahead. A contestant was reciting On Juvenile Chinese by Liang Qichao. The second Recitation Contest, hosted by JNU's Student Affairs Office and organized by the Student Union, was held in the Lecture Hall on the Shipai campus on Nov 4.  After a day of fierce competition, the team called Golden Rooster Heralding the Daybreak won first place.

With the theme of Reciting Chinese classics, experiencing ancient style, the contest effectively implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping's prospect for JNU students, promoting great Chinese traditional culture to the world.

In the preliminary round, some candidates recited prose written in classical Chinese style that represented outstanding Chinese traditional culture, such as Preface to the Tengwang Pavilion, On Yueyang Tower and To My Wife. Others presented patriotic works, such as Motherland, My Dear Motherland; With My Injured Hand, and Snow -- to the tune of Chin Yuan Chun. After the preliminary round, 17 teams were selected for the finals.

A random drawing determined the order of candidates' appearances and the works they would recite. Scores combined judges' scores plus scores from public judges who voted for the candidates of their choice. For fair competition, the contest canceled the part of judges reviewing on the candidates, in case it might  interfere with the scoring. In the finals, team No. 29, Golden Rooster Heralding the Daybreak, won with its passionate recitation of Dreams Light Up China, combined with its outstanding performance of The Last Minute in the preliminary.

Other candidates' well-prepared performances helped made the contest unusually brilliant. The recitation of Motherland, My Dear Motherland in Spanish, Cantonese, Korean, French and Russian wowed the audience. In the end, seven teams in the final round received Awards of Excellence; three won third place; and three won second place.
