Yang Qiaoli, an associate professor in the College of Science and Engineering's physics department, has made a breakthrough in the cross-field of cosmology and dark matter published in the Physics Review Letters. It is not only the first PRL publication by a JNU teacher, but also an important achievement for physics department in JNU's construction as a Double-First Class university.

Physical Review Letters is a world-renowned academic journal. It has reported a number of breakthroughs in scientific discoveries and theoretical research in the history of physics, including the discoveries of X-rays, electrons and electron charge; Einstein's theory on photoelectric effect, and Schroedinger's quantum theory. It has also introduced recent Nobel Prize-winning discoveries in fundamental physics, such as the detection of gravitational waves and the discovery of Higgs particles.

Yang, who has taught in the physics department since January 2017, devotes his research to dark matter and cosmology. In 2017, he won second prize in JNU's English teaching competition, and in August he was funded by the Key Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China.
