JNU is honored to be the focus of the Universities Walk at the Forefront and Support Development series, jointly launched on June 20 by Nanfang Daily and Guangdong Department of Education. The activity has issued a report titled Jinan University Builds Up the Overseas Chinese School Plus Prestigious School Brand to Become an Innovation Bridgehead of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. The report shows that JNU promotes the national strategic development and support Guangdong to achieve the goal of Four in the Forefront of the Country, that is, building an economic system of high-quality development, modernized and over-all opening up and constructing a governance by, of and for all the members of the society.  

We must seize the new opportunities to build an innovation 'bridgehead' of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, ” said JNU President Song Xianzhong in a recent exclusive interview with Nanfang Daily. JNU is known as 'the Paramount School of Overseas Chinese Students,' and the university should continue to build its brand as 'Overseas Chinese School Plus Prestigious School,’ and make full use of the advantages of the 'One Body, Two Wings' pattern of running a school of five campuses in three locations to support Guangdong in achieving its goals. In September, China announced its list of world-class universities and top-class disciplines construction, and JNU's College of Pharmacy was on the list. That college is the predominant discipline of key construction. At present, JNU has eight disciplines ranking in the ESI top1%, including four pharmacy-related disciplines: biology and biochemistry; pharmacology and toxicology; clinical Medicine, and chemistry.

In April, the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee issued a list of the additional doctoral and master’s degree-conferring institutions, and JNU was granted eight first-level doctoral disciplines. The number of new programs ranked seventh, with three additional master's-conferring units of first-level discipline and three professional master's degree-conferring institutions.
The number of first-level disciplines of doctoral academic degree-conferring increased to 23, and that of first-level discipline of master's-granting increased to 26. 41 first-level disciplines of professional master's degree and one discipline of professional doctoral degree are granted. Now, JNU has a more reasonable structure in discipline.

JNU has established seven joint laboratories with five universities in Hong Kong and Macau since 2007. Deeply cooperating with universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao,  Song said,  JNU will continue to give full play to its advantage of internationalization as an overseas Chinese school, and create an 'Intelligence Peak' in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area.
