The second Red Hat Cup Cyber Security Attack with Defense Final Competition was held at Canton Tower on May 26. JNU's team, named Seizing a Historic Opportunity to Build a Cyber Power, was named champion in the university group. The team included instructor Wei Linfeng, a senior engineer in JNU's College of Information Science and Technology; team guide Shao Zhijian; team leader Wang Sinan, majoring in computer science and technology; Chen Yizhao, a computer science and technology major; and Mo Jingcheng, an information security major.

The competition was hosted by the Guangdong Departments of Public Security and Education and the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League. It was co-organized by the Computer and Information Network Security Association and the Nanfang Media Group, and assisted by South China University of Technology.

Half the students in the first and second competitions in Red Hat's Talent Cultivation Plan came from JNU.

In the final round, Wei, the only representative of universities, was invited to the live exclusive interview for the final. In the interview, he shared the experience of talent selection, team-building, pre-competition training and innovation practice training. He also introduced recent achievements of JNU's College of Cyber Security, including personnel training, discipline construction, scientific research platform and competition organization.

As the most attention-grabbing competition on cyber security held in Guangdong, this year's Red Hat competition attracted 512 teams -- about 1,300 people -- from China. After fierce competition, 60 teams were admitted to the finals for institutions of higher education, including Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Jinan University, Central South University, National University of Defense Technology, Information Engineering University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Southeast University, and Northwestern Polytechnical University.
