The party committee of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council convened a cadre conference at Jinan University on February 23, 2018. At the conference, the committee member Jiang Yan announced an appointment and dismissal notice of school leaders: Song Xianzhong was appointed as the president and the deputy party secretary of Jinan University; while Hu Jun was removed from the two posts and member of the party's standing committee.

Jiang Yan claimed that this president employment regularization was a normal changeover. During the past twelve years, Hu Jun conscientiously performed his duties as president, propelling key tasks, refining and decomposing responsibilities and tasks, improving weaknesses in time, introducing incentive measures, innovating work mode and stimulating school-running vitality, in line with the strategy of 'Overseas Chinese School + Prestigious School' and the requirements for Double First- Class and high-level university construction. He has constantly enhanced JNU's school-running reputation and made great contributions to JNU's development and construction.

Song Xianzhong expressed that he would resolutely implement the principal responsibility system under the leadership of the party committee and fully support and cooperate with the secretary. Besides, in the future, he would continue to focus on deepening reform and promoting Double First-Class and high-level university construction, taking innovation as the lead. He would endeavor to make JNU become a cradle for the growth of high-quality talents and overseas students, a significant base for high-level scientific research achievement transformation and high-level decision-making consultation as well as an important force for serving the economic and social construction of the country and the localities, promoting the development of the nation's overseas Chinese affairs and leading the development of overseas Chinese's higher education.

Song Xianzhong, born in September 1963, native of Hunan Ningxiang, is a professor at the School of Management and a doctoral tutor. In December 1992, he was transferred to Jinan University. He served successively as deputy director and director of JNU's Accounting Department, vice president of the School of Management, vice dean of the International School, director of the Development & Planning Department and assistant principal. Since 2011, he has become the vice president of Jinan University. He has also worked as a standing director of ASC (Accounting Society of China), vice-chairman of Chinese Institute of Business Administration, member of Accounting Standards Advisory Panel of Ministry of Finance and member of China National MPAcc Education Steering Committee.
