JNU's 2018 New Year Gala, organized by the JNU Trade Union, was held at JNU Hall on Dec. 29. The hall was filled to capacity as university leaders and over 1,700 faculty members and alumni gathered to celebrate the coming New Year. President Hu Jun delivered a New Year's address in which he reviewed JNU’s accomplishments and progress in 2017. He also extended his heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to faculty members for their dedication over the past year on behalf of JNU leading groups of the party committees and governments. With the theme on JNU's new journey the gala was divided into three chapters: the Banner Chapter, the Inheritance Chapter and the JNU New Chapter, presenting the faith of JNU's people to remain true to their original aspirations and strive for new glory.

Each team at the gala was rated according to its performance. At the end, the teams of the school authorities, the First Clinical Medical College, the College of Chinese Language and Culture, the School of Journalism and Communication, the College of Life Science and Technology, the School of Management, the School of Public Administration and Emergency Management jointly won the Grand Prize. The teams of the International School, the Asset Management Company, the Education College, the School of Law, the College of Liberal Arts and the School of International Studies won the Most Vital prize. The teams of the College of Pharmacy, the College of Foreign Studies, the College of Science and Engineering and the College of Art won the Most Innovative award.
The teams of the College of Chemistry and Materials Science, the College of Information Science and Technology/College of Cyber Security, the Institute of Information, the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the School of Basic Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Oral Medicine and the College of Economics won the Best Performance award.
