The JNU campus newspaper Jinan University was named a Top 10 School Newspaper in the undergraduate group on Dec. 29 by the Guangdong Department of Education.

The purposes of the Top 10 are to further study, develop and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China; to promote innovation in universities' promotion and ideological work; and to build their brands. The education department invited universities in Guangdong to display their campus newspapers for expert review.

In the 2017 Best School News Reports in Guangdong Province, 20 reports selected from the JNU newspaper won awards: seven first prizes, 11 second prizes and two third prizes. The seven categories for evaluation included newsletters, news, comment, layout, photography, headlines and features. 

Five of those were nationwide awards in newsletters, news, layout and photography.

In the competition's last two years, the JNU campus newspaper won first and second prizes. 

Looking to the future, Cheng said, The meaning of the Challenge Cup at JNU lies in leading students to respect and be eager for knowledge and to develop a favorable style of study and school spirit.
