A major project of the Ministry of Education in philosophy and social sciences, Research on the Promotion and Measurement of Total Factor Productivity (TFP) in China (17JZD013), was approved for 800,000 yuan after rigorous assessment by experts from the ministry’s Department of Social Sciences. This project, led by Prof. Wang Bing of JNU's College of Economics, is another breakthrough for JNU in the ministry's major philosophy and social sciences projects in recent years.
(Prof. WANG Bing)
Based on the economic-social-environmental multidimensional calculation of TFP growth, the programme estimates the level and source of TFP growth on macro, intermediate and micro levels. It also enhances the TFP mechanism design and path analysis on targeted aspects, including regional policy, industrial policy, energy- and environment-friendly investment, and economic structure. The research is expected to provide a systematic and scientific method for China to measure the TFP growth rate and offer suggestions for policy-making to improve TFP and promote high-quality economic development.
The ministry’s major research projects aim to support colleges and universities in meeting the demands of national economic and social development; to grasp the frontiers of disciplines; and to carry out in-depth, systematic and innovative research. Since these projects have a significant influence on China’s social science research, they are considered as important as the National Social Sciences Foundation Projects.
