A delegation led by JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng visited South Africa, Mauritius and Malaysia by invitation from Nov. 20 to 29. It conducted negotiations and research on establishing Confucius Institutes, international exchanges and cooperation in higher education, and establishing overseas alumni associations.
One of the delegation's important missions is to participate in the annual council meeting of the Confucius Institute established by JNU and Rhodes University in South Africa, which has successfully integrated into the university's language institute. The honors degree courses in the institute's Chinese major have been approved by South Africa's Ministry of Higher Education and started enrollment in 2017. The elective course Approaching China has been offered to all students. Meanwhile, Chinese has been included in college entrance examination subjects, and many middle and primary schools have established Chinese clubs.
