JNU held the China-Latin America International Cultural Exchanges Symposium on the One Belt and One Road Initiative at Zhuhai International Exhibition Center on Nov. 10. Participants included nearly 60 experts in Latin American studies from China, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, the United States and Italy. They discussed four themes: cooperation on the One Belt and One Road Initiative in Latin America; cultural exchanges; Chinese, overseas Chinese and the China-Latin America relationship; and cooperation on higher education. About 40 Chinese and foreign experts delivered speeches.
Vice President Lin Rupeng, secretary of JNU’s party committee, said Latin American countries have become important partners in the One Belt and One Road Initiative. In August 2016 JNU set up a Latin American Center with the administrative committee of Hengqin New Area in Zhuhai, and JNU's Latin America Research Center was registered with the Ministry of Education in 2017, becoming an important force in research in Latin American studies within China.
