JNU ranked 22ndnationwide and second in Guangdong Province on the list of culturally influential universities released in February 2017 by the Institute of CulturalCreative Industry in China Free Trade Area, Fujian Province (CIF). This is the first time CIF has donein-depth, systematic research and rankings about the cultural influence of Chinese universities in the world.

The rankings are based on analysis and evaluation of history and culture, campus environment, alumni social contributions and social impact, media attention, humanistic academic influence, and degree of internationalization.
Presiding over the editorial work of the research findings was Prof. Li Quanlin, a visiting scholar from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a professor atFujian Normal University, and chief expert and president of Institute of Fuyao Group.
The ranking form is novel and its method is scientific, guaranteeing objectivity and accuracy. Moreover, the ranking provides reference value for college, postgraduate and doctoral entrance examination candidates; various types of university rankings; and China's first-class university evaluation and development.
With a 110-year history and a rich academic atmosphere, JNU is a top university for overseas Chinese, where talented students come in succession; its alumni may be found around the world. JNU opens its door to candidates from 31 provinces, including municipalities directly under the central government and autonomous regions, with priority for overseas Chinese candidates and those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The university has comprehensive disciplines that include liberal arts, science, technology and medicine, among which seven first-level disciplines were on the Ministry of Education's evaluation ranking list for Chinese universities in January 2013. JNU prominently features internationalization, having signed academic exchange agreements with 286 universities and cultural and scientific research institutions on five continents, including 50 countries and such regions as Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan; it was selected for the top 200 of the 2016 QS Asian University Ranking. JNU has a graceful campus environment and a strong atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship, with students recognized in domestic and overseas cultural, physical and art competitions including the Challenge Cup and the Olympics. Su Bingtian and Chen Aisen, regarded as Double Stars of JNU, have won honor and glory for China in international competitions, including the 2016 Olympics.
