The Cultural Exchange Activity for International Students in Guangzhou, titled "Charming Guangdong, Living My Dreams," was held at Jinan University on Dec. 20, with nearly 2,000 students from seven universities in Guangzhou attending.
"A vital juncture has been reached in the development of international student education in China and Guangdong Province," said Liu Rizhi, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of Guangdong. "With the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, Guangdong Province is expanding business ties and cultural exchange with countries along the Maritime Silk Road routes. Meanwhile, more foreigners are eager to know about China." He said he hoped international students in Guangdong would achieve academic success and play a key role in promoting communication between China and other countries in the future.
International students from Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, South China Normal University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Shenzhen University gave an eye-catching performance. The martial-arts show "Oriental Charm," presented by JNU, and poetry reading "Being Grateful in Good Times," presented by South China University of Technology students, won first prizes. In addition, four second and seven third prizes were awarded.
At the end of the event, JNU Vice President Rao Min handed over the banner of Cultural Exchange Activity for International Students in Guangzhou to Yan Guangmei, vice president of Sun Yat-sen University, which will organize the 2017 Cultural Exchange Activity for International Students in Guangzhou.
The Cultural Exchange Activity brought together shows by international students from 36 countries and major universities in Guangdong. It builds a cultural platform for international students in Guangdong to understand China, adapt to life in Guangdong and promote communication among international students.
