JNU Vice President Ye Wencai led a delegation to Australia, New Zealand and Singapore from Nov. 20 to 29 to discuss research cooperation and talent cultivation in pharmacy and medicine. 

The delegation visited the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of the University of Melbourne, the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI); Australian National University in Canberra; the University of Auckland Maurice Wilkins Center for Excellence; Nanyang Technological University; National University of Singapore and the Genome Institute of Singapore.

In Australia the delegation reached a preliminary agreement with the Hall Institute. At Australian National University, the delegation summarized the focus of scientific research of cooperation with members of the Research School of Chemistry; Prof. Martin Banwell. JNU and Australian National University agreed to cooperate further in pharmaceutical chemistry and to establish an international cooperation platform. In Adelaide the delegation also reached agreement with the South Australian Research and Development Institute on marine natural products.

In New Zealand, Ye signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with University of Auckland Vice President Jennifer Dixon, agreeing to develop cooperation in biomedical and technology transformation.

To cultivate international talents advancing with the times, and to develop postgraduates’creative thinking and diversified perspectives, the delegation reached consensus with the National Medical Institute of the University of Melbourne to carry out a 10-week undergraduate internship project and a visiting scholar project with JNU's Pharmacy School and Medical School. It also reached agreement with Australian National University on joint training of medical graduates; established talent exchange projects with the South Australian Research and Development Institute; and reached agreement on doctor exchange projects with the University of Auckland and Nanyang Technological University.

The delegation also attended a job fair hosted by JNU's Department of Personnel at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Ye introduced conditions at JNU and welcomed professors who worked or studied in Singapore to teach at JNU. Some students expressed interest in teaching at JNU and contributing to education there after learning of JNU's talent introduction policies and university conditions.
