Jinan University signed a cooperation agreement with Zhaoqing Municipal Government on Nov.14 to establish the Research Institute of Green Development in Zhaoqing. This institute will be the second local research institute JNU agreed to establish in 2016.

Lai Zehua, municipal party secretary of Zhaoqing; Chen Xudong, mayor of Zhaoqing; JNU President Hu Jun, and Vice Presidents Zhang Ronghua and Hong An attened the signing ceremony. Hong signed the cooperation agreement with Chen Dingkun, a member of the Municipal Committee’s Standing Committee.

President Hu said it was a great move for Jinan University to stick to its commitment to establish itself as a high-level university, serve local economic development and support innovation-driven development with Zhaoqing Municipal Government as Jinan University celebrates its 110th anniversary. Hu emphasized that JNU would completely support the development of local research institute with its  full resources, and ensure maximum access to high-level talents and fruits of technology. Based on actual conditions in the region, JNU will provide more talent support for the environmental protection industry in Zhaoqing.

Lai said Zhaoqing, located in the new Pearl River Delta, has an obvious advantage in timing and enormous potential. Zhaoqing is setting environmental protection as one of its industries. Jinan University and Zhaoqing Municipal Government hope both sides will continue to explore further cooperation in food security and biological medicine to achieve political, economic, ecological and social benefits while establishing the local development research institute.

Chen Xudong said the Zhaoqing Municipal Government will provide first-rate service and policy support in such areas as land, brain gain, input for scientific research, achievement transformation, and business incubation for projects assigned by JNU. The goal is to build the Green Development Research Institute of Jinan University in Zhaoqing into a pinnacle of the environmental protection field in the Pearl River Delta and South China.

Under the agreement, the institute is to be located in Zhaoqing's Dinghu District, facing the Pearl River Delta. It is a late-model research and development entity for national service based on the principle of complement advantages and create mutual benefit and the theme of green development. The institute aims to address complicated environmental problems with the goal of developing industrialization. Major subordinates of the institute are the Water Environment and Karst Carbon Sink Research Center, the Green Farming and Water Environment Protection Research Center, the Water Ecological Environment EWS Center for the Subtropical Area of South China, the Xijiang River Basin Water Environment Joint Managing and Water Rights Trading Research Center, and the Joint Training Base for Graduates.
