China-New Zealand Academic Conference 2016 for food safety and security was held in April 11th. Our School set up a joint laboratory for food safety with of New Zealand on the conference. Professor Shi Lei, the dean of our school’s Food nutrition and Research Institute, signed a cooperation agreement with Charles Brenan, the dean of the graduate school and the director of Food Innovation and Research Center.
The conference was held in academic reporting hall of our Library. More than 80 experts and scholars from New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and domestic universities and research institutions attended the conference. The conference was undertaken by our university, hosted by Institute of food safety and nutrition and New Zeland Lincoln University, and assisted by International College. And Professor Tang Shuze, the former dean of International College presided the conference.
Ms Hong An, vice president of our school, introduced the focus of our university and our advantages in the development of food disciplines. Guangzhou New Zealand consul general Chen Lien (Rececca Needham) fully affirmed the long-term effective cooperation between Jinan University and the Lincoln University. The New Zealand Embassy science and technology innovation counsellor Ross Ross (AL) introduced the history, current situation and future opportunities of New Zealand and China's successful cooperation. He said the New Zealand government would focus on cooperation with China in the field of food safety, water resources and non-communicable diseases.
Experts focused on food safety and food security, and shared their views food safety and security research and challenges they encountered from the aspects of biology, chemistry and processing, supply chain, new technology, quality management, international trade, population, land resources, climate change etc. Experts believed that the effective way to solve the problem of food safety was to establish a network of international cooperation and the formation of food safety culture.
In 2014, the University and the Lincoln University in New Zealand University established a cooperative relation. Professors of two universities founded SCI English journal “Asia-Pacific Journal of Food Safety and Security”. Professor William Riley, a foreign professor of our school, serves as deputy editor, and Professor Tang Shuze and Professor Wu Xiyang as editors. Also, the two universities have held annual academic conference for three consecutive years. And researchers and graduate students have carried out exchange visits for many times.
