On October 18th, more than 150 Jinan University alumni at home and abroad gathered in Shanghai Education Hall to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Jinan University Alumni Association of Shanghai. Celebration began in the Anthem. Mr. Hu Jun, president of our university, Mr. Ma Yauheng, director of the General Alumni Association of Jinan University sent their congratulatory messages. Mr. Lin Rupeng, vice president of our university, Ms Xia Yi, deputy director of the the foreign liaison office and director of alumni Association, Mr. Huang LiqunShanghai overseas section chief, Mr. Shen Rengan, from overseas Chinese university alumni association, and more than 150 representatives, coming from all our alumni domestic and oveseas branches in Shanghai, southern California, northern California, Hong Kong, Macau, Burma, Zhejiang Guangzhou attended the celebration.
Mr. Lin Rupeng recalled in his speech the 19-year glory history of our university in Shanghai. In that 19 years, the university attracted a number of famous scholars to teach, building our reputation at home and abroad, laying the tone of development thereafter. He also specifically pointed out that Shanghai alumni association was founded earlier among all the associations, and its influenccde greater, had a group of outstanding alumni of all ages. Also, the Shanghai alumni made a series of influential alumni events, becoming a vibrant branch among all our university alumni associations.
On behalf of more than 500 Shanghai alumni, the director of Shanghai Alumni Association Mr. Xu Mingliang expressed a sincere welcome to the guests and the alumni. He said that Jinan university ran school twice in Shanghai, and Shanghai alumni association was a great part of Jinan hundred years of development.
On the same day, there were more than 10 alumni, who were over the age of 90 present on the celebration. They witnessed our 19-year history in Shanghai, our change and the establishment of new China. Mr. Pan Tianmin, 97-years-old, was the eldest of the ten. He and several old alumni are Anti-Japanese soldier, and were given the medal of 70th anniversary of China People Anti-Japanese War Victory this year issued by Party Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military; Mr Zhu, 94 year old, took photo for each alumni when they signed in on arrival; Mr. Wang Yongshi, president of the Zhejiang Alumni Association, 92 years old, led 16 members of Zhejiang alumni association to attend the celebration, and wrote speech by himself. They were using their own way to convey the spirit of Jinan university to the younger generation of after 80, after 90 alumni.

After the celebration, the guests visited the old site of our university in Shanghai. As one of our most important spots in JNU history, Shanghai site has an important position in the history.

In 1906 (GuangXu dynasty of 32 years), the Qing government set up Jinan School in Nanjing, which was the beginning of overseas Chinese education. In 1923, Jinan School moved to Shanghai Zhenru. In 1927 the School changed its name to National Jinan university. During the Anti-Japanese War, it moved subsequently to Shanghai concession and to Fujian Jianyang and went back to Shanghai in June 1946. In August 1949, it merged into Fudan, Jiaotong and other university. It was reestablished in 1958 in Guangzhou
