“China Intellectual Property Law Research Association 2015 Annual Meeting" was held in Guangzhou Pearl Island Hotel on September 19th. The meeting was hosted by by the China Intellectual Property Law Research Association, and undertaken by Law / Intellectual Property School and Center of Intellectual Property & Legal Research of our university. The theme of meeting was "rigorously enforce intellectual property law, protect innovation-driven development." More than 500 specialists and peers in the field from universities, research institutions, court system and well-known enterprises attended the meeting.
Vice president of Supreme People's Court Kai Yuan Tao, vice president of the China Law Society Zhang Wenxian, Mr. Hu Jun,president of our university delivered speeches respectively. Su Chi, President of the Beijing IPR Court, Wu Xielin, President of the Shanghai IPR Court and Yang Zongren, President of Guangzhou IPR Court gave theme lectures respectively on IPR Construction, Deputy director of Ministry of Commerce Treaty and Law Department made a speech titled “IPR rules development under the international economic and trade rules reconstruction perspective”.
In his speech, Hu Jun first reviewed the history of our school law and IPR subject's development, and noted that China's economic development has entered into a new stage where the implementation of innovation-driven development strategy has become theme of the times and IPR gives important institutional support and legal protection to innovation-driven development. That National Intellectual Property Law Studies Meeting held here, and discussions and communications over resolution and importance of enforce intellectual property law, are important to further promote the sound development of intellectual property law, and thus guarantee the smooth implementation of innovation-driven development strategy.
The two-day annual meeting covered several topics such as "IPR judicial protection", "IPR Basic theory", "Issues related to IPR operational", "Intellectual Property Law Amendment" etc. The meeting also paid close attention to the focus in the amendment of China's "Copyright Law" and "Patent Law", and creatively increased seminar unit of "traditional medicine" and " Sports Events" discuss issues related to IPR protection so as to gear to the social need.
The meeting, closely linked to social hot spots,was a feast for knowledge and experience sharing, where scholars had in-depth theoretical discussion, and focused on practical problems of IPR judicial protection to find solutions. Also, the meeting focused much on the status of intellectual property law in the current Chinese Civil Code legislative process.
Jinan University was the first to set up the Intellectual Property Right Institute (in 2004) among all southern China universities and was the first to provide IPR undergraduate programs. Also, "Jinan Institute Center of Intellectual Property and Legal Research " is the only provincial humanities and social science research base in the field of IPR.
