Professor Feng Shengli Gives Lecture in College of Liberal Arts
Professor Feng Shengli, chair professor of Chinese University of Hong Kong and Changjiang Scholar of Beijing Language & Culture University delivered a lecture titled Metre & Style of Chinese Poetry.
He started with logical relationship between “Metre” and “Style”, the former being the base of the latter in Chinese poetic composition. Then he made comparison between classical Chinese verses and modern Chinese verses in terms of choice of tonal patterns and rhyme schemes. He also made comparison on the syntactic differences of three different styles of poems (namely colloquial style, formal style) in space and time description. Professor Feng’s lecture was a feast of knowledge covering disciplines like logic, linguistics, literature and arts and psychology to all the audience and created a lively discussion on the meeting.
