The International School Volunteer Team organized a donation activity from Oct 21st to Oct 26th , hoping that students in the International School would donate some notebooks and stationery items to a primary school in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where students are poor and do not have a good study environment. The Volunteer Team hoped the materials would help to pass our love on to them, as well as change their situation.

 

 

 

 

The primary school, which is located on a mountain in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has a total roll of 258 children. These children do not have enough clothes; sometimes they need to wear the same clothes for 10 days or even longer. Since there are not enough dormitories, most of the time, 5 to 6 children need to share a bed and they just have 2 Yuan to spend for a week. Although they want to learn more knowledge, they do not have the materials or the opportunity to write and read freely. As a result, study materials are urgently needed for these children now.

 

The International School Volunteer Team hoped that through the activity, “Love in a Notebook”, students in the International School would provide more notebooks and other learning materials to support and fulfill the children’s dreams.

 

 

 

The members from the Volunteer Team divided into several groups and used PPTs to promote this donation activity amongst Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 students. The activity started on Oct 21st and finished on Oct 26th.

 

 

Although a few slides of a PPT could not explain the poor situation of the children in a detailed way, most of the students were still touched by the passion of the members from the Volunteer Team. After the promotion in class, many students directly donated money to express their love and care for the children.

 

 

 

The Volunteer Team also had a booth during the Volunteer Festival at Jingling Square on Oct 26th, and used some interesting games and photos of activities in the past to promote the volunteering culture. We also promoted “Love in a Notebook” on that day and received quite a large amount of donations.

 

Members from the Volunteer Team received many packages of notebooks from students from different majors after a week of promotion. We were touched by the donors because just a few notebooks and pens can help those children to fulfill their dreams of learning.

 

Finally, we collected more than 2000 exercise books and a great number of pencils, crayons, rulers.

Just like the slogan, “Love is simple, we can do it”, the happiness of children is easy to generate, they just want to have a chance to study. And we can help them through such a meaningful donation; it is not just benefiting them but also us.
