Mr. Dai Bingguo Takes up the post of Chairman of JNU Board of Trustees
Mr. Dai Bingguo, former State Councilor took over the post of Chairman of the JNU Board of Trustees on the 1st meeting of the 7th Board of Trustees.
The first board meeting of the 7th Board of Trustees of our university was held on the afternoon of November 15th. Principals present on the meeting included Mr. Dai Bingguo, former State Councilor and the director of the Office of the central leading group of Foreign Affairs, Ms Qiu Yuanping, director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Zhu Xiaodan, Governer of Guangdong Province, and Mr. Ma Peiru, deputy Director of the Overseas Chinse Affairs Office etc. Also, Mr. Hu Jun, president of our university and other principals and heads of operative departments of our university attended the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ma Yau Hang, deputy secretary-general of the JNU board of trustees. The purpose of holding the meeting was to select board members for the 7th Board of Trustees since the term of last board expired, and three reports including the JNU Work Report, Work Report of the 6th Board of Trustees and Report on JNU New Campus Construction would be read and reviewed on the meeting.
Mr. Fok Chun Wan Ian, deputy director of the board of trustees said in the opening address that since November 2008 when the first meeting of the 6th Board of Trustees was held, Jinan University had made all-round progress and great achievements no matter in its fame and influence or in its competitiveness and attraction to potential students: JNU was one of the most popular universities for overseas Chinese students, foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao; JNU was a cradle of talents for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas communities.
In the speech given by Ms Qiu Yuanping, she expressed her recognition and appreciation to great progress Jinan University made in the past several years after the first meeting of the 6th Board of Trustees was held. The development of the university strictly observed the policy of building JNU into a top-notch university and making Chinese education a brand name of our university in overseas Chinese communities. Also, the support from Guangdong Province was very critical to the rapid development of the university.
