Chinese Corner—The Cultural Stage At 8 am on 2nd November, with the constant stream of people arriving at the Jianyang Basketball Court to arrange their booths, the curtain of Chinese Corner opened.
This year, the theme of Chinese Corner was The Commercial Street of Song Dynasty. Different majors had different kinds of shops: CST—Fruit Shop, PHA—Clothes Shop, IET--Traditional Musical Instruments Shop, CGA—Groceries Shop, FQS-- Butchers Shop, CM-- Liquor Shop and FNC—Book Shop. Every booth had several games and provided knowledge about traditional Chinese culture.
At 10 am, Chinese Corner started with an opening performance. The Student Union of the International School had a Flash show, attracting people with an enthusiastic performance and energetic music. Meanwhile, every booth had been set up and all students welcomed the coming of the leaders of the International School. Next, the performances of each major began. They were very different and each was performed to a high standard. For instance, CST produced a dance show and IET, a traditional music show. Everyone enjoyed the shows, and the performers impressed the audience a lot. They were not only fascinating, but also displayed Chinese culture in an accessible and engaging way. By the way, the magic show and the performance of the band were also popular.
While performances were going on, lots of passers-by joined in the fun games in every booth. We saw children laughing as they played “Fruit Ninja”, girls playing musical instruments, and people trying their best to win prizes. Of course they won prizes, and so went away happy. Chinese Corner was a great experience for everyone!
At the end of activities, there was a canvassing war. Each major used various ways to gain votes. Finally, FQS, CGA, IET won first, second, and third prize, respectively. Congratulations!
Thanks to everyone who, through their hard work, brought 2013 Chinese Corner to life. Special thanks need to go to the Organization Department for their outstanding contribution. Everybody, not only the lucky people who won prizes, enjoyed themselves at Chinese Corner. It is clear that 2013 Chinese Corner was an overwhelming success.
