President Hu Jun Meeting with Turkish Consul General in Guangzhou
On the afternoon of July 3, 2012, Mr. B. A. Karacan, Turkish Consul General in Guangzhou visited our university. President Hu Jun met with Mr. Karacan. Representatives from International Affairs Office and Student Affairs Office attended the meeting.
President Hu Jun first welcomed Mr. Karacan. He said that China and Turkey have a long history of friendly exchanges and notably Istanbul is the western end of the "Silk Road". In 1971, the two countries formally established diplomatic relations and have maintained a deep friendship ever since. He added that Mr. Karacan’s visit will actively promote educational and cultural exchange between Jinan University and Turkey, and the school will take this opportunity to promote educational exchanges and cooperation with Turkey. Subsequently, President Hu Jun detailed to Karacan the school’s characteristics, teaching, research and international exchanges and cooperation.
Mr. Karacan expressed his gratitude for the hospitable reception and mentioned the Turkish Consulate in Guangzhou is being refurbished. He said the accomplishment China and Turkey have made in trade, especially that between Guangdong Province is sincerely joy. He wishes to play some matchmaking role to help Jinan establish contacts with Turkish universities, so as to facilitate the exchange of visits of professors and scholars, promote the discipline development and achieve win-win situation for both sides. He also briefly introduced to President Hu Jun some thoughts on the 2012 Turkish "Chinese Culture Year" and 2013 "Turkish Culture Year", and hopes that next year Jinan can accept a troupe of students from Turkey to visit. He also welcomed Jinan’s troupe to visit Turkey.
Then President Hu Jun and Mr. Karacan discussed potential activities including scholars’ visits and youth student exchange between the two countries, as well as those related to Turkish Culture Year. Both sides said they will actively advance the development of Sino-Turkish cultural and educational exchanges.
