Teng Peijun, an 18-year-old senior in JNU's College of Life Science and Technology, has published a paper in a major international journal as one of the first authors. The paper, Application of the amplification-free SERS-based CRISPR/Cas12a platform in the identification of SARS-CoV-2 from clinical samples, was published Sept. 8. in the Journal of Nanobiotechnology (impact factor 10.435).
Papers with a journal impact factor higher than 10 are regarded as significant achievements.

As one of the paper's primary authors, Teng is in charge of method establishment, performance evaluation, and optimization of testing method. The research provides a new, sophisticated method for fast nucleic acid testing.
The greatest significance of this research is that it improves the efficiency of nucleic acid tests, Teng said. It takes about four hours for ordinary hospitals or laboratories to do nucleic acid tests, while our S-CRISPR nucleic acid tests only require half an hour or so.

Teng's interest in biology is her biggest motivation.

She became interested in Prof. Tang Yong's research on immunity when she attended an academic lecture at the college in her freshman year. From the beginning of her sophomore year, she began spending hours in the laboratory.
Among Tang's students, 17 always stay in the laboratory and four of them are undergraduates. Teng was the youngest at that time.
Liang Jiajie, Tang's doctoral student and Teng's co-first author, is responsible for the project design. When Teng joined the laboratory, Liang happened to be granted admission from the university. Liang often leads the younger students to do projects together, helping them to make progress.
