Dedication to the Medical Field

Tan Junwei's journey towards a career in medicine began in childhood. His fascination with medicine, fueled by TV programs and books, instilled in him a deep admiration for doctors who help others. This passion solidified during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he witnessed the dedication of healthcare workers saving lives. Motivated by these influences, Tan chose to pursue clinical medicine.

Upon enrolling at Jinan University, Tan faced the overwhelming prospect of the extensive curriculum but embraced the challenge. He committed to mastery over his studies, effectively managing his time between coursework, practical applications, and research. His dedication led to an impressive GPA of 4.22 and recognition through various prestigious scholarships.

Commitment to Practical Experience

Tan understands the importance of practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge. He has actively participated in clinical internships, seeking mentorship from experienced doctors and engaging with patients. One memorable experience during his internship reinforced his commitment to medicine: a patient’s encouraging words during his initial hands-on examination sparked a deeper resolve in Tan to excel in his field.

In addition to internships, Tan engaged in scientific research, joining a histology and embryology laboratory where he contributed to various projects related to cell culture and animal modeling. He pursued research on the mechanisms of sea cucumber oligosaccharides and their effects on diseases, leading his team to win awards at both national and regional levels.

Leadership and Class Unity

As class monitor, Tan Junwei successfully balanced the diverse needs of his classmates while fostering a strong sense of community. His leadership contributed to their class attaining the prestigious Jinan University 5A Excellent Class Collective award for two consecutive years. Tan utilized innovative approaches, like organizing engaging activities, to encourage participation and strengthen relationships among students.

A particularly impactful experience for Tan was the preparation for the collective selection event. Despite the pressures of a demanding academic schedule, Tan’s commitment to teamwork and organization shone through, resulting in a successful and well-received presentation.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Tan Junwei aims to specialize in neurology at Zhejiang University School of Medicine, focusing on cerebrovascular diseases. He reflects on his journey with gratitude and acknowledges the support he received along the way.
