The finals of the fifth Guangdong Province and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Industrial Engineering Innovation Competition were held at the Academic Exchange Center on JNU's Zhuhai campus on Dec. 16 and 17. The competition, launched in July, received strong support from relevant universities and enterprises, with 232 teams and nearly 1,500 participants from 16 universities and 48 enterprises in and outside Guangdong. After the preliminary onsite competition and online review, 20 undergraduate teams, 9 graduate teams and 22 enterprise teams entered the finals, with nearly 300 participants and spectators.
Qu Ting, executive director of the Zhuhai campus management committee, delivered the opening speech of the final competition on Dec. 16. He extended a warm welcome to the guests, expressed his heartfelt thanks for the staff’s hard work, and affirmed and encouraged the contestants' innovative spirit.
Wang Wenzhou, chairman of Zhuhai Xiangzhou District Science and Technology Association, expressed his congratulations on the holding of the competition. He said he hoped that it would accelerate the integration of production, teaching and research among universities, governments and enterprises. He also said he hoped enterprises would combine the pioneering exploration of industrial engineering with the enterprises’ production and operation management, contributing to the Greater Bay Area's economic development.
During the competition, the participating teams, making full use of the industrial engineering theories, technologies, methods and tools, carried out interdisciplinary exploration; summarized and exchanged the application and creativity of industrial engineering cases. They also showed the innovative application results of modern industrial engineering in an all-around way and from multiple perspectives.
Gree Electric Appliances (Wuhan) Co., Ltd., won the special prize in enterprise group. JNU's project Artificial Intelligence Technology-Based Efficient Environmental Protection Industrial Manufacturing Workshop Scheduling System was among the six first-prize winners in the undergraduate group. And JNU's Intelligent Collection and Transportation Management System for Kitchen Waste Recycling and other two works won first prizes in the graduate group.

The finals were held concurrently with an enterprise exchange venue and a small-scale job fair for industrial engineering majors.
This competition received strong support from Guangdong University of Technology, the University of Hong Kong, Macao University of Science and Technology, Hisense Group Co., Ltd., Guangdong Jinggong Intelligent System Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Shuben Technology Development Co., Ltd., the Dongguan Jingyi Production Research Association, Guangzhou Suwei Intelligent System Technology Co., Ltd., and Industrial Engineering Journal and Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Technology Journal.
