JNU's Institute of Economic and Social Sciences (IESS) has become a supporting agency of the Global Labor Organization (GLO), along with the Sino-European Institute of Labor, the Indian Association of Labor Economists, the International Journal of Manpower and the Journal of Population Economics. At the same time, JNU Prof. Feng Zhang, president of IESS, was also invited to join GLO. Its members include Prof. James J. Heckman of the University of Chicago, winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Economics; Prof. Kaushik Basu of Cornell University, former chief economist of the World Bank; Prof. OrleyAshenfelter of Princeton University, an expert on labor economics; and other experts and scholars in more than 300 disciplines.
As one of GLO's supporting agencies, IESS will work on issues of global population, labor market and policy impact, offering suggestions on how to build a better international network and use it to promote its related research.
