Q and A about Jinan University Enrollment Policy
1. About Qualification
Any one who holds a high school graduation certificate can apply to Jinan University.
2. How to Apply?
Jinan University takes a bi-seasonal enrollment policy. There are two ways to enter either the pre-university program or bachelor degree program of Jinan University.
On-line Registration(ChinaNet,CERNET)
1) Enrollment without examination
Any high school graduates with a relatively high level of Chinese proficiency (including reading, writing and listening abiligy), recommended by Chinese embassies, consulates or charge d'affairs abroad or leaders of ethnic Chinese communities, can apply directly to the Admissions Office of Jinan University, or apply through local Enrollment Affairs Office of Jinan University, and will be subject to enrollment without examination according to their academic performance in the middle school.
2) Enrollment by examination
High school graduates with a relatively low degree of Chinese proficiency who apply to bachelors degree programs are required to take the HSK test of China (the Chinese Proficiency Test) and reach C level. High school graduates with a relatively high degree of English proficiency can apply directly to the International School of Jinan University. Students who have no Chinese background who want to apply to our bachelor degree program on Chinese Language please read the prospectus of our College of Chinese Language and Culture.
3. Time and Place for Application
Spring Semester:
Application: October - Middle of February, next year
Registration: End of February
Fall Semester:
Application: March - End of August
Registration: August
4. Tuition and Fee
1) Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are charged same tuition fees as the mainland China student. Tuition fee of bachelor program of foreign language studies, science is RMB£¤5£¬760/per year. Tuition fee for bachelor program of liberal arts, economics, management, law is RMB£¤4£¬560/per year, and that of art is RMB£¤10£¬000/per year. Tuition fee for bachelor program of Tourism Management, English, E-commerce (all these are offered in Shenzhen College)) is RMB£¤6£¬000/per year, and that of Tourism Management (Golf & Leisure Management) is RMB£¤10£¬300/per year.
2) Tuition fee for overseas Chinese students or foreign students enrolled into the bachelor program of liberal arts, science and engineering, economics, management and law is HK$11,800 per year. Tuition fee for those enrolled into medicine major is HK$12,800 per year. The tuition fee for those enrolled into the International School is subject to a 50% surcharge on the original amount.
3) Tuition fee for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, overseas Chinese students or foreign students enrolled into the pre-university program A (half-year program, applicants must be Form VI graduates or above) is HK$6,800 for half a year, and that of program B (one-year pre-university program, applicants must be senior middle school graduates) is HK$11,800/year. Tuition fee for those enrolled into program C (one-year preparatory program for applicants who are senior middle school graduates and are not qualified for program B) is HK$12,800/year. Tuition fee for Program D (two-year preparatory program for applicants who are senior middle school graduates and are not qualified for Program C) is HK$13,800/year. Tuition fee for those enrolled into the 3-year preparatory program (applicants must be junior middle school graduates) is HK$10,500/year for fundamental level, HK$10,800/year for medium level and HK$11,800/year for advanced level.
3) For students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, overseas Chinese students or foreign students enrolled into bachelor programs, 2 or 4 people share an apartment. Student shall make a HK$3,200-4,000 deposit for the dormitory, which is subject to refund as per to real expenses. Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, overseas Chinese students or foreign students enrolled into preparatory programs shall pay according to the varying costs of housing options available.
4) Expenses on books, assistant teaching apparatus, food, students association fee, medical insurance and clothing are to be self-borne.
5. Scholarship
Those who get the first place in their high school graduation examination in their class can get a full refund of their tuition fee for the first academic year. Besides this, there are also many other scholarships to those students with excellent performance academically or in other fields.
6. Language and Textbooks
Most of the courses are delivered in Chinese (mandarin). Some of the courses for junior and senior students are delivered in English. Textbooks are most in Chinese with and some are in English.
Currently three majors are offered in English at the International School: Clinical Medicine, International Economy and Trade and Accounting (CGA)
7. Credit System
Jinan University, following the international practice, adopts a standard credit system.
8. Board and Lodging
There are many students' dormitories on campus. Each dormitory is about 20 square meters, each provided with beds, wardrobes, desks, chairs, telephones, internet ports and toilet.
There are several students' dining halls for students to choose. Usually the expense on food is about RMB 500 yuan per month.
The students' activity center provides an ideal place for students to hold various recreation activities. Under the students' union there are over 30 clubs and associations. The Shao Yi-fu Gymnasium is a multi-functional complex in line with the standards for international competitions. Besides, the university also has a standard stadium for track and field events, courts for basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis and badminton and two swimming pools as well.
9. Medical Facilities
The school clinic and the Medical School's 7 affiliated hospitals provide medical service to the staff and the students. (The 1st affiliated hospital of the Medical School is located on the main campus. With 550 sickbeds, it is one of the Grade A hospitals.)
Students enjoy the basic medical care during their stay in school. They are also required to buy the medical insurance according to the state regulations.
10. Graduate Program
Undergraduates from all over the world are also welcome to apply to graduate programs of Jinan University. Jinan University now has 2 post-doctoral mobile stations, 14 doctorate degree programs and 66 master degree programs. Now there are 2529 graduates students at the university.
