Guangzhou (1978-1996)

After the smash of “the gang of four”, Jinan University resumed to work in the original place, Shipai district of Guangzhou, in the approval of the State Council in spring, 1978. According to the regulation, it should mainly enroll the students from overseas, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. But it could accept some students from mainland as the complementary student source. After half year's preparation, Jinan University was opened on Oct. 16th with all teachers & students' coming back. Earlier in June, the school board meeting was recovered with Liao Chengzhi as its president again and Yang Kanghua, also took the previous post as general secretary of the party office & president of Jinan University. A lot of famous experts and scholars were invited to be the university's advisors and honor professors, including Hua Luogen, Xu Tixin, Shen Pengfei, Zhong Huilan, Wu Hengxing, Li Zhengdao, Chen Shengshen and so on. The previous nine faculties except foreign trade and the South-east Asia Research Center were continued. Some faculty and college were newly established, including journalism faculty and medical college. The first-affiliated hospital of Jinan University was under construction. Since national adjustment of the universities' colleges and faculties in 1952, Jinan University was the first to recover the college system and establish medical college. Then it put the college system into effect in the whole university and many colleges were set one after another, including College of Economic, the College of Liberal Arts, College of Science and Engineering, College of Adult Education and so on. A batch of well-known professors were teaching there, including Luo Qian, Yang Jian, Kuang Gongdao, Zhu Shihui, Yu Zhifei, Li Chen, Ren Bangzhe, Zhu Jieqin, Jin Yingxi, Chen Lesu, Qin Mu, Zeng Zhaoke, Li Chujie, Lu Wen, Liu Xuegao, Cai Fusheng, Zhao Yuanhao, Zhang Yuanyuan and so on.

The beginning of 1982

In the approval of Education Ministry, Jinan University became one of the first universities with academic degree authorization right.

June, 1983

Document No. 24 issued by the State Council, gave definite regulation of the nature, task, school-running orientation and some policies of Jinan University, which pointed out the direction of the university's revolution and development.

October, 1984

Document No. 91 issued by the State Council Office, specified the special policies for Jinan University. Through deepening education revolution and widening opening up, Jinan University made great improvement in academic teaching, scientific research and management and had greater and greater influences at home and abroad.

May, 1992

Jinan University became the pilot unit of MBA's enrolling & fostering, permitted by Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

1993

The College of Chinese Language and Culture and the College of Tourism were established.

1995

The College of Liberal Arts was permitted to be the national base of scientific research & personnel fostering of basic art courses by the National Education Commission.

Jinan University was permitted to be the pilot unit of high-level sports team's fostering by the National Education Commission.

There were nine key disciplines of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, two key disciplines and ten key courses of Guangdong province in Jinan University.

June, 1996

Jinan University passed the pre-examination of “211 program” related department and was put into “the top 100 normal universities” list, which would get prior construction in twenty-first century.
