Jinan University is one of the first group of universities authorized by the State to run advanced level athlete team.
In 1998, Jinan University attended the World University Students Badminton Tournament and won 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal. In 1999 and 2001, Jinan University twice attended the World Universiade held in Barcelona and Beijing, winning 1 gold medal and 2 silver medals. In September, 2000, the university was placed the 2nd in the National University Games in terms of the number of gold medals. In November, 2001, Jinan University won 14 gold medals in the 9th National Games.
Shao Yi-fu Gymnasium of the university is a multi-functional complex in line with the standards for international competitions. Besides, the university has a standard stadium for track and field events, courts for basketball, volleyball, tennis and table tennis and two swimming pools as well.
Extracurricular Acitivies
Jinan University takes an active part in many extracurricular activities. In 2001, the team from JNU won the 6th place in the National Challenge Cup, a competition for students' creativity and scientific innovation. The same year also saw a student from JNU win the Best Performance Award in the National English Debate Contest. The Warm Touch Group of JNU was evaluated as one of the "100 Best Volunteer Programs "in the country.
